• GSM

GSM or Grams Per Square Inch is the most common way to measure microfibre weight. Generally a higher GSM means a more luxury cloth, however heavier doesn't always mean better, so bare this in mind when choosing your microfibre.

  • Short Pile or Plush?

Microfibres come in all sorts of materials depending on what you need them for; plush towels are great for the final buff but overkill when it comes to general purpose cleaning, an all rounder or low pile cloth has it's purpose on jobs like upholstery, trim, dressings etc, so don't always just assume plush is the way to go.

  • Edged or Edgeless?

Edgeless microfibres are the safest type cloth to come into contact your paint, this is why you will find that our Canary and Supasoft ranges are all edgeless. The only time we use an edge is to stop fraying on some materials, and then we use silk borders (Mcfluffy, Heavy B)and microfibre edges like our Well Buff cloths.

  • Absorbancy

Some cloths are more absorbant than others, and some loose their purpose when wet so choose your cloth wisely. If you need a cloth for a wet job make sure it is still easy to handle when drenched such as our all rounder. (avoid low GSM plush), if you need a drying cloth or towel then go for a high GSM or triple twist fibre which will drink up to 7 times its own weight in water, streak free!

  • General Cleaning

Jobs like cleaning sills, exhausts, interiors, engine bays etc usually require an all purpose cleaner liquid cleaning agent, and the perfect cloth to pair with this is something with a low GSM and low pile, this makes the cloth easier to hold, scrub, and wring out if you are using it wet to clean upholstery. Our All Rounder cloths are perfect for these types of jobs, or if you want something a little heavier the Blue Ewe which has a short and long pile side.

Although all of our cloths are designed to be washed certain jobs like degreasing or polishing metal can push a cloth to it's limit so it's important to have an All Rounder in your kit that won't break the bank if it ends up in the bin!

  • Quick Detailer & Sealants

Any type of cleaning job is best with a 300-400GSM weight cloth with a low pile rather than an ultra fluffy or plush material. A lower profile cloth will have more contact with the paintwork so don't go too plush with a QD. Consider our Canary Series or again the Blue Ewe.

Spray wax and sealants are sprayed on cleaned paint so you can step up the GSM and fibre length of the microfibre which will spread the product safely and evenly across the paint. Don't go too plush however because you still need the product to sit on the edge of the fibres to transfer across the paint.

For wax or ceramic removal you need an ultra low profile cloth to give the initial bite like our Coating Cloth.

  • Final Buff

When the product has been wiped and you are buffing there is no lubrication between the cloth and the paint so it's essential to use the correct type of cloth to avoid scratching, this is where using an ultra soft and plush cloth is required.

Plush fibres safely remove the wax, any remaining oils or sealants quickly meaning fewer wipes are required for the perfect streak free finish. Our SupaSoft, Infinity or Heavy G/B towels are ideal for this.

If you want to use a mist of product during your final wipe then try our WellBuff cloths which are dual pile with triple twist fibres to quickly soak the product and avoid smearing.
